Caring for the Whole Person: GBMC’s Commitment to Total Wellbeing

At GBMC HealthCare, our vision of providing the care we would want for our own loved ones extends to the dedicated staff who bring that vision to life every day. When we support the whole person—emotionally, socially, physically, intellectually, spiritually, financially, and professionally—we foster a healthier, more compassionate community of care.  

Social and Emotional Wellbeing  

A culture of belonging is essential for wellbeing. Our Employee Resource Groups (ERGs), including Greater Pride, Black Alliance, Women’s Leadership Alliance, and the Neurodiversity ERG, promote inclusion, understanding, and shared identity across the workforce. Their events enrich our culture by recognizing and celebrating the experiences that shape our team.  

In moments of personal difficulty, staff can access confidential, around-the-clock support through Carebridge, our Employee Assistance Program. Our GBMC CARES peer support program offers another compassionate avenue for employees to connect and heal.  

Physical and Environmental Wellness  

We prioritize the physical health of our team as part of our broader mission to improve community health. Our Fitness and Wellness Center is accessible 24/7, supported by gym discounts, walking trails, and nutritious food options in our cafeteria. Our medical, dental, and vision health plans make high-quality care affordable, with benefits like free vision exams on campus.  

We’ve also created intentional spaces for restoration, including the Yvonne Kahlert Chapel, the Meditation Room, and the W. Lee and Mary G. Thomas Healing Garden—sanctuaries for reflection and renewal.  

Intellectual Growth and Career Development  

Our staff are lifelong learners, and we provide the tools to help them thrive. GBMC University, tuition assistance, and the T. Rowe Price Family Education Fund support professional and personal growth. Programs such as CORE Leadership, Emerging Leaders, and structured mentoring offer clear pathways for career development.  

We also hold space to reflect on the deeper meaning of our work through Dr. John Adams Compassionate Caregiving Rounds, where clinical and non-clinical staff alike explore the human side of caregiving.  

Spiritual Wellbeing  

GBMC honors the diverse spiritual needs of our staff. Our Spiritual Support Services team offers interfaith guidance, and our World Religions series and inclusive observances foster understanding and respect. Quiet spaces across campus support inner peace and mindfulness.  

Financial Wellness  

Financial stability is a key part of personal wellbeing. We offer resources including Empower Retirement tools, OneDigital financial counseling, and monthly seminars. Employees also benefit from long-term disability insurance, vacation buy-back, and the ability to donate or receive sick and vacation time - another expression of how our team supports each other.  

Occupational Wellbeing  

A career at GBMC is more than a job—it’s a calling. Whether receiving care through Employee Health Services, optimizing workspaces for ergonomic comfort, or being honored at our annual recognition events, our employees are seen, supported, and celebrated.
